Music Monday: Rockabye Baby – Lullaby Renditions of Your Favorite Artists

Rockabye Baby Lullabys

While Baby I and myself have been spoiled rotten by family and friends with presents, one of my favorite gifts comes from the product team at my office. They gave us the sweet gift that is so Molly appropriate, 3 different cd’s from the Rockabye Baby collection: Cold Play, U2 and Beatles!

Rockabye Baby say WHAT?

Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. Guitars and drums are traded for soothing mellotrons, vibraphones and bells, and the volume is turned down from an eleven to a two. Rockabye Baby! is the perfect way to share the music you love with the littlest rocker in your life.

Yes, this fabulous company has taken hits from some of the greatest artists and turned them into lullabies -- so your hip little baby can rock out to your favorite artists lullaby style!

Here is one of my favorite song of all-time "Let it Be" by Beatles turned into a lullaby;

You can buy the MP3′s on Amazon for around $9.99 an album -- or just 99 cents a song (this way you can pick your faves!)

Or check out Rockabye Baby’s site for the CD’s and great infant apparel

Here is the complete list artist who Rockabye Baby has made lullabys of their hits:

Viral Video Done Right – OK GO (yes, again!)

Ok Go - This To Shall Pass - Viral Video

A few days ago, I received 2 emails forwarding the new OK GO -- This To Shall Pass video. Their inital viral video sucked me into being a fan. This band gets it. Viral videos can make you. And they don’t just do it, they go ALL out.

When I initally showed this to my husband, I noticed it only had 78,000ish views. I told Sean, let’s check it in a few days. Well here I sit, writing a blog post and watching Anderson Cooper -- he just mentioned this. I went and watched again -- WHAM 2,095,808 views! And by the time I post this -- that number will rise even higher.

Having a husband and son who LOVE Rube Goldberg machines, made this video even more popular in our casa. My 4 year old watched it at least 3x, paying attention to each detail and making silly comments. My husband it busy trying to figure out how a effects b -- and as for me and Z, we just love the music.

Syyn labs, a creative engineer group helped put this together, as well as SUPER clever marketing sponsor State Farm. Notice the truck in the opening?

State Farm sponsors Ok Go Video

State Farm logo, then the thank you at the end. Brilliant partnerships all around, but State Farm, who would of thunk they could make this fit? Taking chances with unlikely partnerships pays off!

If you haven’t watched the first huge viral video from Ok Go -- check it out here. This launched their career, sold millions of records and who even knows how much money they are making from YouTube marketing. This video currently has 49,925,634 views!

If you are going to do it, go all in or stay home. Everyone wants this type of success -- but it takes risk and not conforming to the man to make it happen.

Music Monday – Jon Foreman

If you’re a fan of Switch Foot -- the name Jon Foreman may sound familar. He’s one of the co-founders. In recent year has also sprung out on his own with an array of wonderfulness. Saturday night he performed live online in the Help Haiti Live event put on Compassion International. Pure talent -- his live performance and recorded performances both sound impeccable.

I recently watched an interview with him where he talks about writing a song a day. Can you imagine? This just shows the true gift of song writing that he’s been given. His acoustic rawness and words of meaning make me hit repeat each time.

Here is one of my faves, The Cure For Pain

Check out his solo albums:

  • Limbs and Branches
  • Winter
  • Fall
  • Spring
  • Summer

Enjoy!

Music Monday – John Mayer

john mayer

Hello John Mayer.

John just released a new album, Battle Studies -  a few weeks back that I got my hands on last week.  SO Super. In typical John Mayer fashion he blows it out of the park. Though, as I listen to each song I think – did he write this about Jessica, or Jennifer?  Poor guy – those looks, that talent – i’m sure he’ll end up just fine.

Music Monday – Rufus Wainwright

mm-rufus-wainwright

So, thank you PANDORA for yet ANOTHER great find.  Meet Rufus Wainwright, if you don’t already know him -- of course. I don’t know where he has been hiding all of my music lovin’ life -- but his sultry voice, smooth style and hip hair is something I am glad I finally met.

I knew I recognized Rufus’ voice -- he did a fabulous re-do of Across the Universe, that you may know:

Here’s a few deets about this man of mystery from Wikipedia:

Wainwright was born in Rhinebeck, New York, to folk singers Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III.[2][3]. His parents divorced when he was three years old, and he lived with his mother in Montreal, Canada for most of his youth. Wainwright is both a U.S and Canadian citizen.[4] He attended high school at the Millbrook School in upstate New York (which would later inspire his song “Millbrook”), and later briefly studied piano at Concordia and McGill Universities in Montréal. He began playing the piano at age six, and started touring at thirteen with “The McGarrigle Sisters and Family”, a folk group featuring Rufus, his sister Martha, his mother Kate, and aunt Anna. His song “I’m a-Runnin’”, which he performed in the film Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller at the age of fourteen, earned him a nomination for a 1989 Genie Award for Best Original Song.[5] He was nominated for a 1990 Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year.[6]

AND of course, he was in town the week before I found him… oh well, -- next time he hits up Texas -- i’ll be there!

U2 + Great Show + Bad Back + Pregnancy = Herniated Disc

Seeing U2 sing “One” live has been on my bucket list since I fell in love with that song oh so many years ago. Monday night, we experienced the 360 Tour at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

The show was AMAZING.  The atmosphere, the stage the sounds, the presence of 70,000+ people, the drunk people dancing, the thousands upon thousands of flashes from digital cameras going off, the smell of  Miller Lite in the air – I loved it all – well almost all.

U2 puts on a show to never forget. They define what a stadium band should be. And BONO! Did I mention the greatness of Bono? He is amazing. I had a few suggestions for him, but I refrained from discussing them with him when we went out for pancakes after the show. I kid, I kid.

Apparently, I enjoyed it all a little too much.

If you haven’t been to the Dallas Cowboy Stadium – beware. Parking is a joke. The $30 price tag for parking that is no where near the stadium killed me. On top of that between the climbing of stairs and sitting next to a very large man who kept shaking his chair, which shook mine – my back got out whack.

All was good until Tuesday at work. By mid-day I couldn’t walk across the office standing straight. I would quote 2 of my friends on what I looked like – but out of niceness to them not losing their jobs – i’ll refrain from commenting.  (My husband said if I’m going to dish it, I have to learn to take it – so i’m trying not to be bitter :) .)

Sure enough my old enemy HERNIATED DISC has struck again. If I thought it sucked before – I didn’t know what suckage is. Being pregnant, I can’t get my shot or take my meds that make it better.  This just sucks.

On the bright side, I’m crossing thru “SEE U2 SING “ONE” LIVE” on my bucket list. Now, on to my next item… Winning the lottery. If someone wants to help me accomplish this, I’ll be forever greatful!

Until then.. I’ll be hear waiting for my back to heal. Boo.

On My Play List

At least 3x a week I am spooked by someone walking into my office tapping me on the shoulder, as I am jamming to tunes. I plug in, everything else goes away – it’s just me, my music and my work… this is my happy place (at least during business hours).

Here is what’s on my play list:

Ingrid Michaelson – Girls and Boys (her 1st album,  Be Ok – is uh-mazing as well)

ingrid

I first because OBSESSED with Ingrid Michaelson after hearing her on NPR. She has a fantabulous story and an amazing TALENT. AND get this – she’s independent – she answers to no MAN (record label!)

Billie Holiday – The Complete Billie Holiday - $2.99 on Amazon

billie

Great combination of Billie’s sultry voice and easy listening music. Great for a stressful day – or with a glass of wine (hey a preggo can dream).

Tenth Avenue North – Over And Underneath

10th

I heard the song “Hold My Heart” on the radio – and it’s like an ear worm – I can’t get this song out of my head!

Jason Mraz – We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.

jason
Jason Mraz is a Pandora find. Love his sound.

Pandora is my favorite way for finding new music. I have bought more downloads because of Pandora than I have from friends’ recommendations.

Amazon is my MP3 provider of choice.  Cheap, easy and not Apple (not that I hate Apple, they take enough of my money for the silly apps I buy).

How do you find new music? Who are you listening to?
