Marie Kondo memes because it is funny how new year, new you.
A new Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo comes out and everyone is decluttering their home and organizing all the things. Let’s look at the whole KonMari / Marie Kondo Tidying up phenomenon and learn why people won’t shut up about it (me included.)
What is KonMari Method?
KonMari is a method of organizing and tidying up created by Marie Kondo. In 2016, Marie Kondo released her best selling book, The Art of Tidying Up teaching the world how to clean out, organize, fold and achieve an organized home thru the KonMari way of organizing.
A lot of what Marie Kondo and KonMari method teaches is about only keeping things in your life that spark joy as you declutter your home and declutter your life.
Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix
So, since the first of the year – perhaps you have seen a huge insurgence of Marie Kondo memes, or tidying up memes. Why all the organization memes? On January 1, Netflix released Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. This Netflix series features Marie Kondo showing families how to to KonMari method all of their house. It’s a fascinating watch.
Marie Kondo herself, is from Japan and her English is limited. She has a sweet and innocent aura about her, and is TINY! So when you watch the show, you aren’t getting the typical HGTV type television host. You are getting this sweet, zen Marie Kondo who has a magnetic personality even though I did get a little lost in translation.
Keep only those things that speak to your heart. – Marie Kondo
The show has become an instant hit. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook are all a buzz with people watching the show and using the KonMari method to clean out their homes and organize.
Decluttering My House
This is where I confess. I totally fell for it. Marie Kondo made me do it. I watched the Tidying Up Netflix show and then proceeded to DUMP clothes out of drawers and pull stacks of hung clothes out of the closet.
Our kids playroom was cleaned out like never before. My teenage daughter, who I adore but let’s face it – has a room of a teenager – her room was purged. Our home was decluttered.
Spark Joy Marie Kondo Memes
I held items, I thought to myself – does this bring me joy? If it didn’t spark joy – GOOD BYE.
Quoting Marie Kondo, say THANK YOU, then DONATE.
It’s better to donate than accumulate.
I will say that the little kids have a harder time with the understanding of sparking joy – but I still taught them the concept, even though I ended up being the one who determined if it would spark joy or not.
KonMari Works!
Hoarder be gone! We got the majority of the house cleaned out over Christmas break. We still have a garage and a barn to do, but I GET IT.
KonMari method totally works. I am a Marie Kondo believer! That said, I know the trick will be maintaining the organization, but I do have to tell you – the whole spark joy thing really happens when you are completely DONE. We still have our garage, but inside – it’s been a week and it has been amazing having everything cleaned out!
Every Item Has a Home
The kids headed back to school this week. My youngest got a shirt for Christmas he wanted to wear, and guess what – I could actually find it!
When the carpets were steam cleaned, it wasn’t a massive hassle to get everything picked up. Why? Because now every item now has a home.
Making sure there is a designated place for each thing has made cleaning the house and doing laundry so much easier. We made sure everyone knows where everything goes.
I had to write down how great I think the KonMari method and Marie Kondo sparking joy / tidying up because I want to read this in a month when the house starts to go to crap again for inspiration.
