While so far in 2023, the gulf coast states have been spared from a major hurricane – it appears thats about to end. Tampa International Airport announced that it will suspend all commercial operations beginning at 12:01 am Tuesday ahead of Tropical Storm Idalia.
If you are in the path of Idalia, time to start prepping your home and evacuation plans. If you are Florida man, get your flag ready because there’s a storm coming.

Idalia is currently a tropical storm but appears to be gaining hurricane strength.
Current prediction models show that Hurricane Idalia path will lead her thru Tampa, up the coast line of Georgia into both North and South Carolina.
Mandatory and voluntary evacuations were issued for at least eight counties along Florida’s Gulf Coast with less than 48 hours before the storm makes landfall, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned of many more to come.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30. This is the time frame in which most tropical cyclones tend to form in the Atlantic. However, tropical cyclones can form outside of these dates, and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) monitors tropical activity year-round.
The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is typically from August to September. In 2023, the NHC is forecasting an above-average hurricane season, with 16 to 21 named storms, 7 to 10 hurricanes, and 3 to 6 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher).
