Many of us grew up having the day off of school for Columbus Day. In recent years, the realization of what Christopher Columbus really did has changed this day from honoring a man who pretended to discover America to one honoring the native Americans who were here first.
Columbus Day celebrates a man who got lost and committed genocide. Where as Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrates the people who were here first.
This is why Columbus Day is cancelled. The term is slowly fading out, so much so my kids asked what Columbus Day was as they hadn’t heard of it.
Celebrating Columbus day is like going to the wrong house and then claiming it as your own.

Thank you to all who grew up knowing this day as Columbus Day but realize that it’s just wrong. We hope these Indigenous Peoples’ Day memes better explain what we should be honoring and not the man with a bad plan.
