September 11th – We Will Never Forget
I woke up today and looked at the date. Every time I glance at a calendar and see the date of September 11 – a sick feeling develops in my stomach. Each year, on this day 9-11 – I can’t help but remember that tragic morning that reshaped how we live. While I am in Texas, far from the devastation, like all other not directly impacted, we felt the ripple effect. We witnessed the skies empty from all aircraft and the continual news coverage and pandaemonium that followed.
September 11, 2001 – While so many events of the last 11 years have faded from my memory, September 11 is as vivid as yesterday. In the years since, so much as happened – including our 4 kids. I look at these 2 toddlers of ours, and they don’t know about September 11th.
Being just 1 and 2, they of course are too young to understand if I did explain it to them.
That being said, I hope and pray they never go thru anything like the tragedy of that day. Near or far the impact shook us. As a mom, I don’t want my toddlers (or other kids) to have to go thru the uncertainty that terrorism causes.
Crap happens, we can all expect it to rain sometimes on our birthday or for some events in our lives to not happen as we had hoped for, but then there is 9-11. September 11th was destruction caused by evil. Unfortunately, the world we live in isn’t rainbows and unicorns and explaining and watching my toddlers realize this is not going to be a highlight in my career as a parent.
There are so many things I want instill in my kids so that when chaos erupts they will be prepared, but unfortunately I just don’t think you can ever be prepared for evil. But that’s what us moms do, right? Play mama bear and try to protect our cubs. That’s all we can do sometimes.
