How many of you HATE PowerPoint?
Okay – now that we are all in agreement, let’s talk about GOOD presentations.
I’m interrupting this blog post to clue you into something that had me go huh? A deck or Presentation Deck – well thats just what some people call Powerpoint or Keynote presentations. Okay, back to normal programing.
What Makes A Good Visual Presentation?
Good visual presentations tell a story without telling you everything. They act as a guide for the speaker as he or she walks thru his presentation. The words and visuals are simple. Minimal words are used, and those that are used present an idea, thought or key point.
Presentation Software
The generic PowerPoint I pray is on the way out. Each time I am asked to create a PowerPoint, I end up spending endless hours creating graphics, then plopping them into the program because the tools I just don’t like.
Keynote is a fabulous option. Available for the Mac, Keynote enables a slick looking presentation, but you want simplier? easier? okay.
Meet Prezi
Create fun interactive presentation or Prezis as this company has coined them for free to minimal costs.
This is how Prezi describes their product:
Prezi is zooming sketches on a digital napkin.
It’s visualization and storytelling without slides. Your ideas live on stage and on the web.
Have you ever wondered about presenting your thoughts as free as they come? Ever got tired of creating a slideshow? It’s been said, that the best innovations come from people who are unhappy with the tools they use. We realized that our ideas won’t fit into slides anymore. Putting together creative thinking and technology expertise, we have created Prezi, a living presentation tool.
The cost of Prezi varies from free to $59 to $159 depending on how much storage space you need and if you want to use the desktop application. Prezi also offers student/teacher discounts.
There are several instructional videos to get you up and running.
Alternative to PowerPoint
Give Prezi a try the next time you need a quick presentation and want an alternative to PowerPoint.
It Looks Cool – But How Easy Is It, Really?
Here is my 5 minute presentation. I’d never used Prezi, just started playing with it, watched the clock – 5 minutes later – WALAH! I’m sure with 20 more minutes this thing would of been 20 times better, but you get the point- very easy to use.
The People Behind Prezi
Researching the company, I found some big names supporting this start up. Jack Dorsey from Twitter, TED (the events) is an investor, Victorianna Dunn – nope don’t know who she is but she’s a woman and is the office manager and her name is on the site. Props to her.
