garmin vivofit review

I am a progress kind of girl. I like to see NUMBERS and if you remember, I had a FitBug Orb and loved it, I think because I could track progress. Well the Fitbug was great and all but it died on me. A dead FitBug is not useful. I have used the Moves app as well, and that works great – but here is the thing, I TOTALLY forget to turn it on. I thought about getting a Fitbit, and then Christmas happened, I didn’t buy one.

In January, my husband and I hit up Vegas for CES 2014 and were able to view just about every fitness band on the market or soon to be on the market. After reviewing all, I saw the Garmin Vivofit and fell in love, except the Garmin rep informed me it will be out “late first quarter or early second quarter”. BOO.

I waited and waited, and finally – was able to snag a Garmin Vivofit┬álast week. If you are looking for a fitness tracker, let’s talk about the specs and why the Garmin Vivofit might be a great match for you.

Battery Life:

The Garmin Vivofit┬áhas a 1+ year battery life without a charge! The Fitbug I had to charge every few days. I wasn’t too annoyed since I really liked the device, but not having to charge period? OMG – LOVE this!

With a press of a button, you can see your steps, calories burned, distance and TIME right on the Vivofit! That’s right, it acts as a watch as well. Total smartness.

Garmin Connect

Your Garmin Vivofit connects to Garmin Connect via bluetooth. The Garmin Connect app will give you an overview of your activity level, allows you to set goals, see sleep patterns and more!

The Vivofit is waterproof. I can wash dishes, take showers, give baths and all the usual water chores while wearing this device. Brilliant!

The Vivofit band is comfortable. It hasn’t falled off yet, or annoyed me. I never could wear a watch, but this just seems to hug my wrist.

Bonus Features

If you are being lazy, laying around doing nothing – the Vivofit shows a red line for inactivity after an hour. It’s like it is silently yelling at you “GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND MOVE!”

The only thing I disliked is the lack of instructions. I am NOT one to read instructions and I typically either take a photo with Evernote or read instructions online when opening a new goody. This device had ZERO instructions, only online. I’ve learned what I needed to do but it leads me to believe that maybe my package was missing a pamphlet? But no worries, the online information got me going and everything I needed to know and MORE about this fitness tracker.

The Garmin Vivofit runs $129. You can purchase in a variety of colors.
