Lenovo, your CEO rocks.
Faith in Humanity Restored – Lenovo CEO Rocks
Just when I was starting to lose all faith in coporate America humanity, I read that the CEO of Lenovo, Yang Yuanqing received a $3 million bonus and what does he do? He gives it back to his employees.
As a previous corporate America employee, I know the pain of working hard and hoping for a bonus, any kind of bonus – even the free turkey at Thanksgiving kind of bonus. We see all the time these big CEOs receiving massive amounts of money, so the news of a CEO giving back makes me smile.
Yang received the bonus for increasing profits, despite a weakening PC market. But like a good CEO should recognize, it takes a tribe to make those record shipments and profits happen. His bonus was broken down into 10,000 discrete chunks and given to line workers, assistants and lower-level employees. For those who are slow at math or don’t have a calculator handy, that’s $300 an employee.
Who is Lenovo?
Lenovo is fastest growing of the four major PC companies in the world for two years running. While they specialize in PCs, they also make tablets and smart phones.
Giving to Employees Equals Awesome Sauce
If you are a regular reader, you should know my love for companies that give back. Giving back doesn’t have to be to a third world country (but please do, if you can). Giving to employees is equally as awesome. With the crappy economy, yes it’s getting better but still – any company who can recognize and reward it’s employees – especially when it comes from the personal checkbook of a CEO deserves a hug, a plug and our support.
Dear Yang Yuanqing – you have won my heart as CEO of the year and will forever make this tech mom smile next time she sees a Lenovo laptop (the hubs has a Lenovo laptop, so I’ll smile often).
Thanks for the head up Engadget
