I love my job. I create content and test products. I make stuff. It’s super fun and I really thought I had the best job in the world…. that is until I got to hang out with a group of Hallmark card writers.
Last week, I was invited by Hallmark to attend their Dallas, TX stop of Moment and Milestones tour. I am a longtime Hallmark shopper, so when I got the invite – I thought sure, why not. Not knowing what was ahead, I headed downtown to the Magnolia Hotel to see what the morning had in store for me.
It was a group of 12 or so bloggers, hanging out with some of the Hallmark staff learning the in’s and out’s of what they do and what happens to make a card. Totally fun, right? YES – for us nerdy creative types – it was more like listening to someone brag about how awesome their job was – but hey I enjoyed it!
The Hallmark Card Writers guided thru a brainstorming session. We were given various photos and in 5 minutes had to come up with a clever caption that would work well as a birthday card. Here’s what I came up with:
And if the Hallmark Card Writers have the BEST job, the Hallmark photographers and stylist come in a close second and third. The Photographer and Stylist explained the creative process for finding people for cards and styling various campaigns. Overall, it was a fascinating time learning the behind the scenes of what’s up at Hallmark.
Birthday was the mornings themes. Hallmark surprised all the bloggers with personalized plates (and a cupcake – can’t leave out the important details like CUPCAKE) – featuring a photo from our blog. This print-on-demand feature of personalized birthday plates is a new products Hallmark is offering. Can you say BRILLIANT?
Another little ditty we learned. Hallmark reuses all excess card stock by making them into index cards (see above). It’s Hallmark card paper people. Hallmark uses this same paper for all of their print-on-demand cards, so you aren’t getting cheap flimsy cards when you order personalized cards from them.
See the cute little boy with the mushroom haircut? Yep, that’s my E from a few year’s ago. He was so stoked to see his face on a plate – he won’t throw the plate away.
Thanks Hallmark for the fun event!
