This year we are celebrating Easter with Jesus and chocolate.
As unpopular as our decision maybe with our older kids, we’ve decided to say goodbye to the Easter Bunny tradition. When our first two were little, we would fake the Easter Bunny – but over the years, for us it just felt dumb and defeating the whole purpose of Easter. We’re more of a Jesus family rather than a big huge bunny that hops around laying eggs (yes, I know – he doesn’t necessarily LAY eggs, but it goes well with my crazy vision of him.
Now that our 2 toddlers are old enough to be Easter Bunny’d – we will have an Easter basket for them (thanks Hershey’s for the chocolate!), an Easter egg hunt, family dinner – yadda yadda – but our talks will be about why we celebrate the day.
My hope is that someday we will be able to migrate the Christmas focus from gifts to God. For now, we will just work on keeping Easter holy.
