Here you go – a round up of our picks for best iPhone accessories. We hope you fall in love with these products as much as we have.

PopSocket

First on our list of best iPhone accessories, the POPSOCKET! What is a POPSOCKET – you ask? A PopSocket is a phone grip and phone stand that expands and collapses using an accordion mechanism. PopSockets “pop” whenever you need a grip, a stand, a headset management system, or just something to play with. You can also wrap your cord around it – so add cord management to this list.

Our friends at YouTube Red sent us a YouTube Red PopSocket in a care package. I really didn’t know if I would use it, so popped it on my iPhone and now I’m in love. So much in love, that when I bought I new case (more on that) – I Gorilla Glued the Pop Socket to my new iPhone case.

Why do I love the PopSocket? I upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus and while I do love it – it really is HUGE. Add-on my case, my hands are too small to effectively use the phone, but the Pop Socket – it’s lets me have a better grip on my phone. It acts as a handle when I talk or text. You can also use to prop your phone up with it.

My daughter loved mine and ended up buying one for her phone. I have had countless people ask me about it and several who have purchased (including my nail lady!)

Screen Protector

When I bought the iPhone 7+, I wanted a case that wasn’t so bulky. I’m a grown-up and my kids are growing – surely I could just use a cute iPhone case and a screen protector. I did great…. for about 7 months. Then my son had to go to the ER for splinters stuck under his toenail (true story) and as I was rushing to get out of the car, guess what. BAM. Right on the pavement, my iPhone dropped. Facedown and when picked up cracked. I was devastated.

iphone screen protector - best iphone accessoriesI took my phone in to get the screen repaired. The Apple Genius asked that I remove my cute phone case and then he made my day. What do you know, that cheap screen protector I had put on my phone HAD worked and IT cracked NOT my screen! WOOHOO!

Needless to say, I immediately – before leaving the Apple store, jumped on Amazon and ordered another screen protector AND a new case because this mom isn’t chancing that again.

Otterbox Defender iPhone Case

Next on our BEST iPhone accessories list is a long favorite iPhone accessory of mine, the Otterbox Defender iPhone case. Well actually, Otterbox anything I go fangirl for. My husband has a Samsung Note and uses an Otterbox. My little kids have iPads with Otterbox Defenders and my older kids have iPhones both with Otterbox Defender cases, as well.

What I don’t like about the Otterbox Defender is the bulkiness – but folks, after experiencing the “OH CRAP, I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY $150 JUST TO FIX MY IPHONE SCREEN BECAUSE I DROPPED MY PHONE” panic. I quickly realized that you know what. The bulk isn’t that bad and it is so worth it. The bulkiness of the Otterbox Defender is less than what it use to be.

True story – when we had bought our kids iPod Touches years ago, we put Defenders on the case. A few years ago, I found my son’s old iPod and was scrolling thru his photos and videos. Sure enough, that boy of mine had rolled his phone down our stairs making a video. Like THUNK THUNK THUNK and then would do it again until he was all the way down the staircase. No damage to the iPod Touch. Another time – our then toddler, threw my husband’s phone from the second story foyer balcony to the tile foyer floor. No damage. Thank you, Otterbox!

OTTERBOX DEFENDER DEAL TIP! Check out Amazon’s Warehouse deals to see if you can find your Defender cheaper. I found my son’s for around $20 – the packaging was damaged but the product was not.

iPhone Selfie Light Ring

The selfie light ring for your phone – okay, before you judge read. My husband laughed so hard when he saw this on my phone. You GUYS, it really does make photos better with the light ring functionality. I use to use this often with product photos that I was taking with my iPhone.

The iPhone selfie light ring clips on to your phone. It even worked with the Otterbox Defender.

Here is the problem. My teen daughter used my selfie light ring once and then I found it in her luggage. I reclaimed it, but the girl has stolen it again. This is the life of a mom with a teen daughter. If it’s not my yoga pants and jeans, it’s my iPhone selfie light ring. You pick and choose your battles, and I just need to order another light ring (they are super cheap – under $10!)

Bluetooth Wireless Headphones

This may sound weird to some, but one of my favorite hobbies is mowing the lawn. We have a few acres and riding the lawnmower while listening to podcasts is just so stress relieving to me. I use my bluetooth wireless headphones and just zone out. Progress is made, my podcasts are listened to – winning!

External Battery / Power Bank

Whoops, I said 7 but I totally meant 8 best iPhone accessories! If you don’t have an external battery/power bank – you are totally missing out on life. Actually no, you are probably living life but just not with a FULL BATTERY. I have a collection of these. Once I was stranded in the Las Vegas and then San Antonio airport and a power bank kept me connected and sane mid-travel-panic-attack. (CES 2015 – oh the memories.)

Anywho, the larger the battery the longer it will work (but longer it will take to charge.) A 20000 mAh is ideal, if you don’t mind a bulkier battery. This lasts me days! Definitely a tech must-have when traveling.

5 Reasons I Won’t Be Getting the iPhone 6+

5 Reasons I Won’t Be Getting the iPhone 6+

Let’s talk about a first world problem that many of us are debating:

Should I Get the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+?

As many Apple heads know, last week was the big announcement of the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6+.  This release Apple gives us 2 new smart phones to choose from.  The iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6+. Decisions, decisions.

I’ve been waiting for the new iPhone announcement, as my iPhone 5 was itching to be replaced ever since my husband upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy 5S. So what new iPhone will I be getting? Let me start with what I will not be getting. The iPhone 6+, here is why – IT’S TOO BIG. Here’s the 5 reasons the size just killed it for me on the iPhone 6+

1. Thumb Reach

iPhone 6+ Thumb Zone

I saw this chart on Mashable and I had to laugh. My 5’5″ thumb reach is sad.

2. Must Fit in the Wristlet

wristlet

I carry a wristlet. I don’t want to have to carry a special bag just for this phone.

3. Pocket Fit

Apple iPhone 6+ Pocket Test

On the 10 days a year I wear jeans (yeah, just not a fan), I want to put my phone in my pocket – and with the iPhone 6+ it’s just not going to happen. And in my back pocket? No thanks.

4. Phone not a Tablet

iphone 6+ ipad mini

I chuckled when I heard the term phablet – you know, a phone – tablet — that’s what the iPhone 6+ feels like and I am just NOT feeling it. If I wanted an iPad, I would of bought an iPad. It’s like the iPhone 6+ is the new iPad Mini Jr.

5. Cup Holder

With 4 kids, I live in my car. My phone lives in my cup holder. There is no way that phablet is going to fit in my cupholder!

It’s just to damn big people! I feel like we will be looking back on photos of people on iPhone 6+ and thinking similar thoughts to this photo of Zack Morris and his GIGANTIC cellular phone.

Thoughts? Will You Be Purchasing an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+?

Lifeproof Case: Toddler Proof Your Phone

Lifeproof Case: Toddler Proof Your Phone

otterbox defender vs lifeproof

For the last several years, I’ve kept my iPhone in an Otterbox Defender case. I love the case, and with toddlers who tend to accidentally throw my phone, it’s a must. My Otterbox case was approaching the year mark and it started to fall apart and knew it was time to buy a new one.

otterbox vs lifeproof

At CES this year, I was introduced to the Lifeproof case. I had heard rave reviews, but hadn’t gotten my hands on one until Vegas. The case was SO thin and if it did what it said it does in way of protection, I was SOLD. I bought a case on Amazon and haven’t regretted it one second, here’s why.

Thin

otterbox defender vs lifeproof

The Lifeproof FRE case is so thin. It fits my iPhone like a glove. I can actually slide my phone into my back pocket, something I never could do with my Otterbox iphone case.

The case protects my phone just as well as the Otterbox did without the bulk.

Waterproof

Another bonus with the Lifeproof case is it is also waterproof. That’s right, I can take my phone in the pool or swimming with the dolphins. I haven’t tried out this feature yet, but I am sure it will be put to use this summer.

Charging

The Lifeproof case is designed to work with the Apple charging cord – note: it will not work with Amazon’s certified Apple cord.

More about the case:

1. Design: The thinnest, lightest, toughest, most advanced phone case ever envisioned, designed, and crafted
2. Function: Complete access to every function, button, control, and port
3. Optics: CrystalClear optical-glass lens ensures distortion-free photography
4. Aesthetics: Transparent window showcases the beauty of the Apple design
5. The Four Proofs: Water proof, dirt proof, snow proof, and shock proof seals on all ports, plugs, and buttons
6. Profile: Slim, sleek silhouette stays true to the iPhone 5’s thin design and precision lines
7. Acoustics: Enhanced speaker ports deliver maximum acoustic output and clarity. Channeling sound through the back of the case produces improved base and mid-frequency sound
8. Technology: Packed with everything we already knew about device protection, plus everything we needed to invent, imagine, and create to make it better
9. Materials: Crafted from the most advanced materials available for optimal protection, rugged durability, and long-lasting style

Baby and the iPad App Uzu

Baby and the iPad App Uzu

So when I set this in front of my 4 month old, I totally didn’t mean to create an app review – but he was so mesmerized – I had to video. Izaiah is 4 months in this video.

What is the Uzu App?

Uzu is…. A Kinetic Multitouch Particle Visualizer

Uhm. Okay but WHAT IS UZU. Uzu, originally an iPad app – now available for the iPhone – is an app that produces amazing color and patterns – you can control by touching various parts of the screen.

As you can see – little Iza is absolutely fascinated. When he touches the screen the colors burst like fireworks and then he let’s go and they fizzle out.  This keeps his attention for more second than I can  and then he screams. He’s 4 months old in this – so i’d like to think that this is a winner, considering he doesn’t hold a rattle for longer than 5 seconds.

I have to agree with a lot of people out there, this app is absolutely stunning. On our ride home from Austin a few weekends ago, I gave this app to the older kids to keep quiet. It did it’s job – so not only is it fascinating to this 31-year old mom – the 4 month old, the 5-year old, the 7-year old – and my husband all love this app.

I’m not sure if this is on the iPad demos at the Apple store – if not – this app rightfully deserves a place on them.

Uzu recently won iTunes App of the Week and held the #2 app spot for a week!

Here are the deets on purchasing the Uzu apps:

  • The Uzu iPad app – 99 cents
  • Little Uzu iPhone app or iPod Touch app – 99 cents

From the Uzu Creator –>

Description of the iPad Uzu App

Technically speaking, Uzu is a kinetic multitouch particle visualizer. Really it’s a sort-of math-physics-art-toy for anyone who ever loved spirographs, fireworks, planetariums, lava lamps, light sabers, pen lasers, tesla coils, christmas lights, or graphing calculators.

Points of light will shoot across the screen and fly to your command, twirling in a vortex of color and motion. Freeze and move Uzu in 3d space while contorting spirographic curves with your fingers. Uzu lets you quickly switch between 10 different modes of real-time animation by simply changing the number of touches you’re using. You can spend countless hours discovering the many unique ways of playing and interacting with Uzu.

Uzu is very happy when multiple people touch it. Uzu loves parties, children, music, cats, and pubs – although not necessarily in that order. Uzu has many plans for the future, but Uzu would like to hang out with you now if that’s cool.

****** 10 MODES OF CONTROL *******

0 Touch: Brownian motion and boundary wrap
1 Touch: emanate and radiate
2 Touch: pinch attraction and boundary bounce
3 Touch: tri-point vortex
4 Touch: quad-point inverted vortex
5 Touch: 3d freeze and translate
6 Touch: 3d oscillating mass
7 Touch: 3d tri-arm spiral
8 Touch: 3d warp and inverted translate
9 Touch: 9 springy space ribbons
10 Touch: change color and particle size

Angry Birds Game – The Game That Won’t Stop Selling

Angry Birds Game – The Game That Won’t Stop Selling

Angry Birds Game – STILL On The Rise!

FOR THE LOVE OF ANGRY BIRDS!

So if you run in circles where your friends carry iPhones… there is a VERY highly likely chance that you hear about the game Angry Birds.

Here is why.

The Angry Birds game is HOT. As in H-O-T. How HOT? Check out these stats:

  • Angry Birds is downloaded approximately 60,000 times a day.

  • Rovio has sold more than 6.5 MILLION copies of the iPhone game on the app store since December.

  • The iPad version – Angry Birds HD has been downloaded more than 200,000 times – at a cost of $4.99

Angry Birds is currently available on the iPhone, iPad and Nokia N900. Rovio will be launching Angry Birds for Palm later this week and Angry Birds for Android in the very near future. So this number of downloads (and purchases) will only grow.

How Much Does Angry Bird Cost?

Angry Birds has both a lite, paid and HD version of the game.

Here is the price break down:

  • Angry Birds Game Lite: FREE
  • Angry Birds Game for the iPhone: 99 cents
  • Angry Birds Game HD for the iPad: $4.99
  • Angry Birds Game for Nokia N900: The first 21 levels are FREE — once you complete that, download level pack 1 (42 levels) – $1.99

CA-CHING for ROVIO!

Do the math. Even with Apple’s 30% share of the revenue – Rovio, the makers of Angry Birds is making a TON of money.

What’s Next for Angry Birds?

As mentioned earlier, Angry Birds will next release on Palm and then Android. With the amount of Androids in the market – this is a natural evolution for the Angry Birds App. Rovio has also mentioned to looking at other platform to move the game to. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Angry Birds for the Nintendo DS before long.

New Toy / Words With Friends – Watch & Learn

Maybe New Toy, the creators of Words With Friends will take note. There is money to be made outside of the OSx market. Consider moving the Words With Friends app to Android and beyond. I know my husband would appreciate it!
