Textbooks – are they finally going digital? With the world in a ebook frenzy and with the costsof printing and not to mention the information changing in the textbooks – will they go digital?
Digital Text Books for Schools
McGraw-Hill launched its first all-digital, cloud-based textbook for the K-12 market on Monday at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference. (source: Mashable)
School have lacked the hardware needed to deliver textbooks digitally. With the increasing amount of technology in the classroom – the shift from physical to digital textbook couldn’t come at a better time.
McGraw-Hills new format, CINCH, is a cloud-based curriculum for K-12 math and 7-12 science. It makes all course materials, which include ebooks, presentations, assessments and animation clips, available from any device with a browser. Students in a class can also participate in Facebook-like conversations that stay with the text. Were trying to meet students and teachers where theyre at digitally, Stansell says.
McGraw-Hill will also be launching a new payment model with CINCH: schools will be charged for each student to use the textbooks on a yearly basis. It comes out to about the cost of a workbook for each student.
I don’t know about your kids, but my children gravitate towards computer learning. With the popularity of iPads, it could be a reality that rather than the bulky school backpacks that are kids are carrying are no longer. Our kids could carry everything they need in an iPad, but will the change happen?
How Soon Do You Think The Switch From Physical Textbook to Digital Textbook Will Take?

While the world is busy downloading and loving Angry Birds, is Rovio going after small businesses for creating Angry Birds products? I sure hope not! Thanks to a heads up from a lovely reader – today I learned that the Angry Birds Crochet Patterns by the lovely Itsy Bitsy Spider have been DISCONTINUED.
It was a lot of fun while it lasted. I got to know people from all over the world and I got to share my patterns in a way that made people happy. But it’s over.
On Tuesday, I was asked to stop selling the Angry Birds patterns. I cannot get into the details, but suffice it to say that I stand to lose more than just my business if I continue. (more…)
I walked into work, noticed how messy my desk was and proceeded to start cleaning it before even plugging in my laptop. (hello Nesting.)
If Not Now, When?
I noticed something as I was wiping down my desk. Sitting behind my monitor was this round silver, size of a nickel coin that said, “If not now, when?“. The odd thing is, I have no idea who put this on my desk. But it made my day. The crazy meeting-ridden day full of agendas and initiatives – had me stirring with this thought.. what am I waiting for?
What am I holding off on in my life?
What am I not experiencing because I’m in a holding pattern, waiting for _______________?
What is it? and WHEN?
So while I try to convince my husband we need to RV around the US and live off the land with these 4 kids – this idea will have me continually stirring as to what I need to change in my life.
What about you? Is there something you are ready to do but aren’t because of this or that or what have you?
